Tom Rothe is running for the Charter Commission, and wrote this on his Facebook page:

"The Douglas County Commissioners decided to spend $500,000 of your tax dollars for a special election this month, instead of waiting until the November ballot to ask voters, for free, if they want Home Rule.The last thing we need is people like that to remain in power indefinitely. Their version of Home Rule will eliminate term limits and give them the power to appoint, rather than elect, county officers like sheriff, the assessor that decides property tax valuations, and the clerk that oversees our elections. We need more accountability to voters, not less! Vote no and send them a message that Douglas County does not want more political ambition and nonsense."
