Our DougCo County Attorney stated the following in a meeting:

“The swing left has been so fast that most counties haven't really seen that whiplash like, Walden, Pickett County. For example, Pickett, part of the reason they became home rule, I believe, is because they thought the Colorado legislature was too conservative.

”Well, the county never even contemplated, a left swaying for the state of Colorado like this.

”As to us turning blue; I actually think becoming a home rule with being the first county of Colorado to have a conservative charter, it actually could make us like the Florida of Colorado where Democrats don't wanna live here and Republicans who are looking for that place, especially Republicans living in Denver again or Arapahoe County, who are mad at the policies of their kids' schools or what whoever it it is, Douglas County will become kind of that the home for them, and help turn us actually be that kind of island surrounded and protected.”

Some facts about making Douglas County like the Florida of Colorado:

• Florida's murder rate is higher than Colorado (10.6 per 1000 vs. 6.7 per 1000)
• In Florida, about 15-20% of homes are uninsured, due to the current impact of climate change.
• We also live longer, by about a year. Hey, it's not much, but no reason to go backwards!!
