The Commissioners Said What??

Commissioners Double Down On Home Rule

TEAL: “Throughout this campaign, voters faced an onslaught of outside special interests, throwing hundreds of thousands of dollars at our community, flooding social media with disinformation and, quite frankly, lies. There’s no other way to put it. False accusations and failed lawsuits from individuals whose credibility is questionable only added to the intentional confusion surrounding this critical issue. Despite the outcome, I want to be clear: the Douglas County Board of Commissioners remains steadfast in our belief that preserving local control and amplifying the voices of our communities is vital.”

(In other words, when they put "Citizen engagement is the heartbeat of effective local government" on the website, it's just words. It means nothing. Citizens spoke, but the commissioners refuse to listen)

LAYDON: “As we reflect on the outcome of the Home Rule Charter ballot measure, I want to acknowledge the voices of all Douglas County voters,. While this decision may be a reaction from one group on national issues, it also presents us with a vital opportunity locally to unite and move forward together to create an even stronger Douglas County. Your Board of County Commissioners will continue to fight for what is right for our communities, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected.”

(Abe continues with Teal's rationalization: it's just an uninformed group and we will find other voices that say what we need them to say)

VAN WINKLE: “This is a moment of reflection for us all. I look forward to continuing the conversation about the importance of local governance and working together to unite our community around all that makes Douglas County so special.”

(They have NEVER, once, said what it is that "makes Douglas County so special," but apparently it boils down to being run by Republicans)
